Book tokens – a new initiative

In Autumn the 2019 EBSF sent a card and £100 book token to every Birmingham care leaver who was beginning a University degree course for the first time. Given the work of EBSF and the Birmingham care leavers service is to promote access to higher education, there were 49 young people from Birmingham who had just started at university. The card and book tokens were very well received by all new students, helping them to acquire essential academic material at the start of their course. Feedback has been very positive from students and staff in the leaving care service. The book tokens were sourced from National Book Tokens who were very helpful and offered us a discount. We intend to repeat this initiative in the coming autumn.
