Awards for graduates in a bumper year

Following the EBSF’s decision last summer to give a £250 award and certificate to all Birmingham care-leavers who gain undergraduate degrees, all 18 awards have now been made.

            In a bumper year for achievement, four of the graduates achieved first class honours and a further five 2:1s.

            This new scheme follows a consultation meeting in August 2025 with care-leavers who are at or have been at university, to discuss how EBSF and the Birmingham Children’s Trust might help their university journey. Titled University Challenges, the meeting discussed what care-leaver students need to know in advance of university, their support needs during vacations, and whether they should tell friends that they’ve been in care.
